Week of Oct. 13

The weightlifting program is going okay, and the cardio has increased slightly. Spent Saturday bushwacking/tracking from 10h to 16h30, not fast but fairly steady. I never know exactly how many km we do on those days, we have to stop for data collection and lunch(of course). It's probably only 3-4 km.Maybe someday I'll get one of those stride counters.

Food isn't always healthy. Most days I stick to the regime, but days like Saturday, and even yesterday, cabs are high on the list; apples, juice, nuts, crackers, cheese, taco chips and salsa sauce for late supper, bubblegum yeaterday instead of supper (too much running around yesterday for house reno stuff).

1st week

So my first week went pretty well! I'm still getting the hang of the nutritional guide (what to eat etc). I haven't done any calorie counting yet, but my portions have been fist/palm/thumb sized as appropriate and eating every 3 hours or so makes the smaller portion just enought to tide me over for that time period. I havent found myself snacking. While I found some suggested snacks (celery/hummus for example), is there a protein/carb guideline for that too? The sample snacks seem rather random and not necessarily in-line with the protein/carb guide for the meals? I think once the protein/carb combos become ingrained, counting calories wont seem like such a burden. One new thing at a time!

1/2 Century Man: Week 7, Soaking in the Fall Colors

It was an incredibly nice day today. The unseasonal weather was warm enough to wear shorts and t-shirt. That's rare up here this time of the year, usually we're wearing fleece sweaters and gloves. I had a nice walk around the boardwalk about 6km, then off to a local park/bird sanctuary and walked another 5km. Nothing strenuous, just a chance to relax, take in a beautiful day and recharge. It was a good day. I look forward to tomorrow.
