Starting off

Well, I thought I knew a few things about nutrition. I've been on weight watchers, followed the points system, and have success in it. But, I have been in a 3 month limbo, neither gaining, nor losing. Nothing more frustraiting. That is why I decided to join GHF. Get my system burning fat, and really take a look at the quality of my food intake, and how I can improve that.

I decided to use these first few days to see, while staying within my points, where that leaves me for protien, carbs and fat at the end of the day.

What I found out was a suprise.
protien was hit and miss...

computer gremlins?

ahumaciu@verizon.net's picture

I must have dropped some food on the keyboard because the site is acting very strange for me tonight. I logged in, came to the blog page and it said I was logged in as someone else. Then I clicked on my blog and I was myself again. - oooooooh spooky!

I have had some great workouts this week:
Monday - bodybuilding phase 2- 3 days/week - week one w/out 2
Tuesday - 30 minutes step aerobics and some Wii yoga
Wednesday - bodybuilding phase 2- 3 days/week - week one w/out 3
Thursday - 30 minutes step aerobics and some Wii yoga

plus walking 1.5-2 miles a day pushing the stroller.

Tomorrow is going to be a really busy day for us so I may take the day off and do the weight lifting on Saturday instead.

YES I WENT!

I did it! I completed my workout and it feels great! (Thank you Samantha for asking and encouraging - if I had still been sitting on my computer that probably would have pushed me out the door). I have to share with everyone what made me push so hard during my workout despite not wanting to go.

I got in my car and NPR was playing the Democratic Convention in Denver, my home city. NO - This isn't about politics - Anyway, they were playing a clip from Martin Luther King's "Dream" speech. As I sit and listened I was motivated to make this the best workout I could because I have a dream too. It may be smaller and it may not have global reaching effects, but it is my dream. It is my dream to be fit and healthy for once - for me, my family, my husband who is a soldier with many deployments under his belt, and for my toddler who is fighting cancer.

Resisting Resistance...

I am supposed to be in my car going to the gym to do my leg workout. I don't want to go. I am tired and hungry. I have been doing so well this week, I don't want to lose my momentum. Gotta Go. Go anyway. GET OFF THE COMPUTER! JUST GO! Ok, here I go...I am commiting to writing the follow-up in less than 1 hour from now...I will complete this workout.
So, if anyone is listening...harrass me in 1 hour...ask me if I went...Either way I will let you know how it goes. Kateri
PS It is 8:12 PM ETD

08/28/08

Sheesh! I had a long blog all typed up & it disappeared. I guess maybe I gave too much info in it anyway.
Last night I was bad - no exercise, just too drained AND ate a Snickers bar (which I shouldn't have had in the house in the 1st place). In my blog that disappeared, I analyzed WHY I ate it (which is where I probably posted too much info. LOL) But, anyhow, I did analyze it and I know what's got me under a bit of stress right now.
Having been so bad did increase my resolve for today though. I got through 10 min. of the advanced abs online over a.m. break. I have tons to get done tonight after work, so I am SCHEDULING my walking and plan to do it AS SOON as I get home, even if it is still hot out.

Three months are almost up...

xfortylove@yahoo.com's picture

My Vegas vacation went well. I ironicly didn't drink or gamble. I'm not big on gambling, I'm more of a play it safe girl. Haha. I did good though. It was a little difficult to keep track of eating. We ate at weird hours, but I always ordered something healthy. So, I didn't eat every 3 hours, but I did good. I even bought my own groceries when I was there so I wouldn't cheat. There is always room for improvement.

I have a question for Julia:
The end of my three months is coming up fast. I was wondering where I go from there. I know you shouldn't carb cycle for more than three months at a time but I don't know what to do when I'm done. I don't want to go back to the old eating habits. I'm staying at 1500 calories a day and at 1900 for my high carb days. So, after this program do you sugesst staying at 1900 for a normal day? Should my workout routine stay the same. I just am scared of gaining back everything I've lost. Ya know?

The Machines Are Taking Over!

dukowitz@gmail.com's picture

As long as they don't become self aware I should be alright.

The living room conversion is going well. As I peer out over my computer monitor I now see a treadmill and an elliptical machine. Six hours from now, I should also be able to see a Stair Stepper machine! :)

YeeHaw! just keeps getting better and better :D

checked in on the Wii Fit today and I'm right in the middle of my new weight range of 269-274lbs

I'm guessing I should be in a new weight range come the third week of September :)
almost forgot to the right of my monitor is also an adjustable bench and a few friendly dumbbells :)

Is it Friday yet?!

mykittiesrule75@yahoo.com's picture

Yesterday, I had my meals planned out well...then dinner hit after kickboxing. It is way too easy to just eat out: childs burger, childs fries and a few fried appetizers (cheese sticks, jalapeno poppers). So total calories were not bad BUT fat was high, carbs were low and protein was just okay. Fiber hasnt been the greatest lately--even with eating more oatmeal for breakfast :(

This week I have brought my lunch and snacks for work! Cottage cheese in the afternoon, yogurt in the morning and my lunches were:
mon: lean cuisine frozen pizza (was in a hurrry)
tue: progresso low sodium chicken and rice

08/27/08

Mornng break - I decided to try doing the online abs exercises over break. Of course break is also when I have my 2nd meal of the day, so I had oatmeal with vanilla yogurt in it. My tummy was a little full to be doing ab exercises. I got thru 5 minutes of the Intermediate one that is about 12 minutes long. Tomorrow I need to set the a/c lower about 15 minutes before break, as I probably could have gone longer, but didn't want to work up a sweat here at work.

My First Day

Hi, my name is Cristi Jones and I am 33 years old. I am an American living in Germany right now with my husband. We moved here 3 1/2 years ago for my husband's career. He works for an encryption software company based out of Palo Alto, Ca. It has been challenging but rewarding as I have traveled quite a bit during this time. However, the rest of the time I am at home alone during the day and increasingly bored. This has not helped my eating habits and weight management. I am sad because a lot of the pictures I have of my travels include an overweight ME. We are going to return to the States in 6 months or so and I am determined to get back to a healthy weight and a healthy me in this time frame.

Wow! Maybe I'm finally getting into an "exercise as a priority" mode! After work I ran errands, then suddenly got hit with a piercing headache. My first thought was to take aspirin and lay down, but then I thought since it was cool enough to go ahead and walk, I thought maybe the exercise and fresh air would actually help more than laying down. I walked 2 miles (well it's actually more, because I do each of the 8 lanes of the track, so I can remember how many times I've gone around). And by the time I was done my headache was gone!!! Good thing too, as I had phone calls the rest of the evening and wouldn't have gotten a chance to get away later if I had waited.

Overcome office lunch temptation

Its toughest to remain focused in lunch here in my office. We have a big cafeteria which serves out tasty food but unfortunately not the healthiest. I have realized that if i have to track my nutrition i will have to make my own lunch.

But making a lunch requires much more preparation. fortunately my apartment is nearby so i can go over there and make something. I prepare for it in the morning like cut the vegetables etc.

however ,I think it would be better if i start packing nice lunch and bring it to office. That way i would have no excuse not to eat it and not get tempted by the food in the cafeteria.

Did more cleaning (several loads of stuff up and down stairs) last night. Was exhausted and didn't really want to exercise but (patting myself on the back) I put on the walking shoes and went up and walked the track again. 1 1/2 miles at pretty good pace.

Protrack

LNMaresca@gmail.com's picture

I decided to give Protrack a try, but I'm having some trouble. Is there a way for the software to tell me how many calories I've burned in a workout? It seems like it wants me to enter the amount I've burned but I have no way of knowing. All I can enter is the duration I worked out. Plus, I workout to tapes where exercises are constantly changing and cardio is included in bursts and I can't quite figure out how to enter in those kinds of workouts. Any advice?
