some good some bad

nutrition is still off, but I am starting to restock the house with the good for me stuff instead of just the "good" stuff. And Justin is going through his 3 month growth spurt/cluster feeding so I am sure I have burned some extra calories the past few days - hopefully it is over.

I have been completely faithful to the workouts though:
Sun - walking
Mon - walking and BB phase 2, 3 days/wk, week 3 day 1 (chest, shoulders, triceps)
Tue - walking, 30 minutes step aerobics
Wed - walking and BB phase 2, 3 days/wk, week 3 day 2 (legs, back, biceps)

I am still sore today from Monday, I wonder if I am going to be able to move at all tomorrow.

6 week goals

In six weeks we will have family and friends over for a party for the big guy's baptism so I thought it would be good for me to set some fitness goals now that I have a fixed date for wanting to look better.

area - current (6 week goal)
waist - 37" (35")
hips - 45" (43")
thighs - 26.5" (26")
weight - 185# (whatever goes along with the above ;)

boy those measurements look familiar - just about what they were when I started GHF. could this be validation of the set point theory? Well I lost it before, so I know I can do it again.

As predicted, I did not work out yesterday because we were running all over town. So, today my loving slavedriver of a husband made me go walking twice - once in the morning when it was overcast and then again at 7pm.

computer gremlins?

I must have dropped some food on the keyboard because the site is acting very strange for me tonight. I logged in, came to the blog page and it said I was logged in as someone else. Then I clicked on my blog and I was myself again. - oooooooh spooky!

I have had some great workouts this week:
Monday - bodybuilding phase 2- 3 days/week - week one w/out 2
Tuesday - 30 minutes step aerobics and some Wii yoga
Wednesday - bodybuilding phase 2- 3 days/week - week one w/out 3
Thursday - 30 minutes step aerobics and some Wii yoga

plus walking 1.5-2 miles a day pushing the stroller.

Tomorrow is going to be a really busy day for us so I may take the day off and do the weight lifting on Saturday instead.

excuses removed - pumping iron again.

Hubby has removed all of his math books from the home gym and weight bench so he could start working out again. He is a community college instructor so he gets loads of sample texts from the publishers. Scott, if you want to come out to SoCal to pick em up I'll cook a nice healthy dinner for the 3 of us, but I don't think they will fit on the motorcycle.

Anyway, I finally snuck in a workout of my own today. I am going to step back to bodybuilding phase 2 3-days/week in order to ease back into things. I am not sure I will have time to do all of the exercises during nap time, but I will modify if I have to, or do half in the morning and half in the afternoon. I'll still use the Wii for Yoga, balance and aerobics, but I just didn't feel that the strength exercises were doing anything for me except hurting my ankles.

Off to a slow start this month

So far I have only gone walking twice and done one Wii workout (this morning). Planning on going walking once it cools down tonight.

Nutrition was garbage over the weekend for one reason - fail to plan, plan to fail.

After my nap, I am going to cook up some extra lean meatballs, some pasta and maybe some brown rice so I have things on hand to throw together a quick meal. Already have some grilled chicken breast, and a salad mix, plus tomatoes on the vine almost ready to pick.

Oops someone woke up...so much for me sneaking in a quick 20 winks.

Anyone up for an August fitness challenge?

Rich the Cyclingmaniac started this awhile ago and it really helped me stay motivated. 12 weeks is a bit long for me to stay focused.

It is really simple:

Set a goal for the number of workouts you will do in the month of August and post it here. Report back occassionally as to how you are doing and help support each other to reach our individual goals. I usually post my goals in my signature and update it weekly.

My goals for August are:
walks - 15
Wii Strength and Yoga - 10
Wii Balance and Aerobics - 10

Survived parental visit!

My parents came to visit late last week and on Friday my inlaws joined us along with our 10 year old niece. Slight chaos in our house. It took Justin and me a few days to recover. We both took a 3 1/2 hour nap in the middle of the day yesterday! 3.5 whole hours of sleep - woohoo!

Food was ok, if anything I ate less because I was bouncing around making sure everyone was having a good time. We got mesquite grilled salmon, chicken and tri-tip on Friday and I ate the leftovers most of the weekend. The only bad thing is my MIL made a cake that no one ate because they were too full and now it is sitting in my fridge and hubby won't eat it (yellow cake with pineapple, lime pudding and cool whip). I feel bad throwing it out, but if I don't I will eat it all.

I forgot how good it feels to be sore from working out.

I have a little post workout soreness which must mean I am doing something right. The only challenge is getting out of bed for that first night feeding (somewhere between 11PM and 1AM). Strangely enough, I don't feel as stiff at the next one.

Also, some of the pain in the knees upon standing is subsiding and the shoes and rings are fitting a little looser. Maybe soon the joints will all be back to normal. I know it can take up to 6 months and may never be completely back to the way it was. I am just hoping to avoid being forced to buy new shoes and have the rings resized.

keeping busy working out

Tuesday was my 6-week postpartum exam and everything checked out ok. I am 19 pounds over my prepregnancy weight. We broke down and finally bought a scale in order to weigh Justin. I need to only weigh me once a week at the most.

Exercise this week:
Monday - walking approx 1 mile
Tuesday - Wii Fit aerobics and balance
Wednesday - Wii Fit strength and yoga
Thursday - Wii Fit aerobics and balnce
Friday - napped most of the afternoon then watched Monk and Psych so skipped workouts
Saturday - walking 2 miles up "the hill" (I only pushed the stroller down)
Sunday - planned walking

Nutrition could be better. My goal for this week is to get my laptop sent in for repair and get Protrak loaded on the desktop in the meantime.

Let the exercise begin (slowly)

Yesterday I did 30 minutes of Wii balance and aerobics. The step aerobics I did while holding Justin (a bit colicky until I held him).

Today was yoga and strength training on the Wii and a brisk 30 minute walk with the baby and stroller.

The next 5 weeks are going to be a bit crazy with Daddy back at summer school (gone from 11AM to 11PM, Monday through Thursday) and then relatives coming to visit so I have to keep up with the house and entertain. I will sneak in workouts when I can.

Dara Torres - my new inspiration

Dara Torres, 41 years old with a 2-year old daughter, just qualified for her 5th Olympic Games!

http://www.nbcolympics.com/swimming/index.html

I remember her from the LA Games in 1984 - back when ABC had the rights and they actually showed events and not soap opera style coverage.

A friend of mine who used to be one of her assistant coaches said she ran into her a few months ago. She was swimming 18,000 meters a day in preparation for the trials (that's 360 laps for those that don't know).

All I managed today was to go walking for 45 minutes. And I only pushed the stroller for half of it.

Need stretching and snacking suggestions

Anyone have any suggestions for snacks in the middle of the night while "we" are feeding. I have been having bars (nutrigrain, promax, breakfast cookies, etc.) But everytime I do I hear Julia (and my dentist) nagging me about the sugar content, haha! It can't be anything that needs refrigeration since I don't want to run downstairs between feedings to get anything, I just want to crawl back into bed. Did I mention he is feeding every two hours?!

Also, I am looking for suggestions for stretching my chest and mid back. The two tight areas are my sternum (I feel a little ball when I try to massage it) and my back in the spot directly opposite my sternum. I have been trying cat and cow yoga poses when I can sneak them in - they do help. Just wondering if anyone has any other ideas.

Justin Max Humaciu is here

I gave birth on May 29 after a pretty quick labor for a first timer - about 8 hours from when I first noticed the contractions (they woke me so I am not exactly sure). All 100% drug free until the stitches after we were done.

Justin was 7 lbs 8 oz and 19 inches long. I attached a few pictures.

I haven't been able to exercise much, besides the squats while pulling on a towel during labor (great upper and lower body workout - haha) I did some walking in the hallways of the hospital a few times a day. Yesterday we went did two laps walking aorund the block and we will go again today once Daddy finishes working.

Got my WiiFit today.

We went out to get it this morning even though I won't be able to start using it for a month or so, since we were afraid stock might run out. I think it will be a fun way for me to add some variety to my postpartum workout.

I guess I could try some of the yoga and balance exercises, now. But we went for a walk this morning "on the hill", before shopping and the weekly doctor visit and now I am very achy and a bit swollen. At least the swelling isn't as bad as it was these past 3-4 days when it was 95-100. Weather reports are predicting 70's for this weekend. May and June in SoCal are so erratic weather-wise.

Feeling great at 40

Your attitude determines your altitude.

My "Big Birthday" didn't bother me at all, though looking at the pictures did throw me for a minute. Before GHF I would have been close to tears looking at a picture of myself. Just tie some string on me and I could be in the Macy's Parade.

But after getting back into a fit lifestyle for almost a year before I got pregnant I changed the most important thing that can determine my success - my mind set.

I was chatting with my senior prom date yesterday who is doing some really exciting stuff teaching junior high students script writing. Then this morning I read about a new study that seems to show that moderate exercise in the teen years can reduce the chances of premenopausal breast cancer. It got me thinking again about going back for my ACE certification and doing some kind of volunteering with the city or school district in youth fitness.
