Today I was considering removing one of my September goals ...the one about restarting Karate and getting in 6 workouts at the dojo.
My first promotion in Shorin-Ryu karate was back around May of 1982 and, it's been a good five years now since I've been at the dojo so, it was a bit of a mental hurdle to get back in.
Currently the only days I can attend are Tuesday and Thursday nights which meant I would have to make every Tuesday and Thursday from now until the end of the month to get in my goal of 6 karate workouts and I really didn't think had it in me to make tonights workout. (*very* tough day at work)
So ...the specter of defeat was emerging in my brain and I was fully ready to let it overtake me until I read Tracey's adulations which specifically mentioned my September objectives.
Her comment was all I needed to send the demon of doubt back to the depths of Hades where it belonged.
I restarted Shorin-Ryu Karate tonight and completed my first of 6 dojo workouts.
Eating
a bit less than ideal - no breakfast and I didn't have a chance to get away from my desk and had to work a bit late so my sustenance came from various candy dishes and some muffins that someone had brought in.
~8 a.m.
5 junior mints
15 skittles
~9 a.m.
2 choc chip muffins
2 pumpkin muffins
~11 a.m.
2 bite sized Charleston Chews
~2 p.m.
2 pumpkin muffins
~9:30 p.m.
yogurt - 100cal, 0g fat, 5g protein, 19g carbs
~11:15 p.m.
4 slices turkey breast – 120cal, 2g fat, 20g protein, 0g carbs
18 Saltine Crackers - 216cal, 5.4g fat, 3.6g protein, 36g carbs
Here's a neat thing about Karate ...there's never any excuses. I couldn't use the fact that I didn't have any meals today as an excuse not to go. We can never use the fact that it might be too hot or too cold to train and the reason is that we might be under those same circumstances and also be in a situation where we have to fight or defend ourselves.
You can't tell a mugger that it's an inconvenient time to get robbed.
When it gets down to it, you have to snap on like a switch and take focused action regardless of anything else to the contrary.
Anyway ...Today was kind of rough but that comment helped me do a 180 and finish strong.
Thank you Tracey.
