I mentioned the health fair we had at work the other day and I did get all the non-smoking literature available and I've been Googling "quit smoking" & "lung capacity" for a while tonight.

I like reading the timeline benefits - what improves after 20 minutes, 8 hours, 24 hours, etc.,

on a couple different sites I noticed an increase in lung capacity in as little as 72 hours (some sites said 3-4 days) which is apparently due to the bronchial tubes relaxing.

I read a few things on COPD while in the Dr's office this past Monday as well. and my books showed up today so I spent a few hours reading through them, mainly the 4 Months to a 4 Hour Marathon book and the Triathlon book.

According to another site it looks like I'm pushing stage 3 of the 5 stages a smoker goes through before quitting.

btw - the 5k i signed up for is next week, just before another 1/2M - some people close to me suggested not doing anything today or tomorrow before the race on Sunday but, I might still squeeze in Karate tomorrow morning since I'll be working from home. need more planning and more time - more energy management.

At this time the fact that certain cancers and lung diseases are reduced from not smoking doesn't do much to motivate me but the increased lung capacity idea does.

the passivity of not training can be annoying but, i guess it's necessary to succeed in the long run and, I suppose, it's part of the whole energy management concept.
