A long time ago I took an abstract algebra class which had a lot of high school math teachers in it who were working on their master's degrees. One day a couple of them were making comments that seemed so incredulous to me as to remain indelible to this day. There were actually posing the question, "what is this stuff good for?"

Those were the last people in the world who I thought would pose such a question especially since they were teachers and presumably would have been faced with that very question in their own classes. I didn't get it. I mean, here we were taking a graduate level class and learning the fundamentals of mathematics, in many cases the very essence of mathematics yet they had no appreciation for such thing.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit I've heard similar comments in the classes I'm taking now. But it got me thinking ...sometimes you never hear that question.

I've never witnessed anybody watching a television program and suddenly blurt out, "what good is this!?" or "when am I ever going to use this?!"

I've never seen anybody drinking in a bar ever ask, "what good is this going to do me?"

I've also never heard anyone say, "I just didn't have time to brush my teeth this week" or, "I didn't have time to shower last month or do laundry".

I think it's probably true that the people who make the worst use of time are the first to complain of its shortness. I can see that being true for me anyway, at least in days gone by.

Of course, I also see (especially in the long haul) that people who don't have much time and yet are capable of exercising but don't, are probably wasting time by not exercising because they aren't functioning as efficiently as they could be.

eh, just some thoughts swirling around in my brain.
I did get in my Friday workout today and am all caught up now. I've been considering adding a Sat & Sunday workout to my routine. I would keep the base workouts with my Dad on Monday, Wednesday and Friday but realize I have the option of kicking in another 1-2 workouts on the weekend. Basically, I would just add another push/pull or pull/push workout during the weekend and maybe do some heavier weights then are available during the week and maybe some slightly different exercises.

Tonight was a decent workout. I wasn't as strong at my bench as I might have hoped for but the shoulders seemed pretty strong and I was able to manage a third set of 1 arm side laterals for 10 reps using a 60 pound dumbbell with very good form.
For some reason, I tend not to do much ab work when I go to the gym at Golds ...all the more reason to keep those base workouts with my Dad! :)

Tonight;s Workout
Bench Press 135x15, 225x10, 275x10
Incline 135x10, 225x6
1 Arm Side DB Laterals 40x10, 50x10, 60x10
DB Shrugs 85x12, 95x12, 105x12
Cybex Triceps Extensions 90x12, 120x12
