It was a good day for stuyding but missed my exit to get back to school for my 5k run and had a bit of trouble turning around. I think Palin and Biden were in town last night at Wash U for a debate and one of them must have been in need of the highway about the time I was going back to school because the area was flooded with police who were blocking off all the exits. I've seen it before when Bush has been in town - more cops then you ever know existed - all exits blocked off, zero cars let on the freeway then a slew of cop cars and police motorcycles speeding down the highway with their lights on followed by a bunch of big, black SUVs speeding behind them.
I finally made it back to the school around five and was happy to learn the gym was open until 6 on Friday's.
I made it about 0.75 miles on the first treadmill until I wore it out and the speed dropped to zero with a "Check Speed System" message displayed on the screen so, I moved over to the next treadmill and got about two miles in until I ended up with the same message after a little over 2 miles.
I saw those same messages up a couple weeks ago so I'm guessing they still need maintenance. Had I stuck to walking I think I would have been fine but I was pushing things a bit for two reasons - one was that I wanted to get my 5k in before they closed and the other reason is because I was trying to push myself a bit and toy with the 6-7 mph range of running.
Maybe it's like when you get a new car or bike ...ya just gotta see what it'll do and I'm getting this new engine built inside me and was curious where the red-line was
but, I think that may have been one of the ways I hurt myself last year so maybe the treadmill gods were simply watching out for me.
I crashed when I got home for about 4 or 5 hours but had been up until 4 a.m. the night before finishing a lab assignment so, I *really* needed the nap - - test this Tuesday - eat/sleep/study/workout until then -
