So my first week went pretty well! I'm still getting the hang of the nutritional guide (what to eat etc). I haven't done any calorie counting yet, but my portions have been fist/palm/thumb sized as appropriate and eating every 3 hours or so makes the smaller portion just enought to tide me over for that time period. I havent found myself snacking. While I found some suggested snacks (celery/hummus for example), is there a protein/carb guideline for that too? The sample snacks seem rather random and not necessarily in-line with the protein/carb guide for the meals? I think once the protein/carb combos become ingrained, counting calories wont seem like such a burden. One new thing at a time!
I did do all my workouts and even managed to get extra cardio time in. I changed up my schedule a bit as I found my weight days to last longer than anticipated, so decide to do my second workout on a Sat morning when I dont feel so pressured with time. I did my first workout on Tuesday and those muscles hurt till about Friday and now my legs hurt from Sat. Certainly a sign that I did something right! (The ache of success?) I did 3 days of Cardio with 2 of the three sessions at 45 minutes rather than 20. I think once I get the weight exercises down, the time will go quicker. Right now with 20 mins of cardio, plus the weights, it's taking over an hour and I wasnt expecting to spend that much time at it - especially on a weekday. I dont get home till 6 - then have to do dinner, homework etc etc. An hour is alot to squeeze out of all that.
Sat was my 2nd high carb day and I found it more difficult to stick to the eating schedule than when I'm at work. I'm sure that's not unusual. I went to a BBQ Sat night and ate reaonably, but also drank beer. I fell completely off the nutrition wagon late Sun afternoon and ate a fast food burger/fries w/ my son due to convenience and lack of planning & we were starving. I definitely need to have some ready food on weekends when we're out and about. Looks like toting around a cooler will be the way to go. I'll crank out a mean workout tonight to battle the burger :-)
