Patrick J. Cohn, Ph.D.
GHF's Sports Psychology Expert

Master Mental Game Coach

As the president and founder of Peak Performance Sports (Orlando, Florida), Dr. Patrick J. Cohn teaches mental skills and sports psychology techniques to athletes, teams, and corporate professionals to help improve performance. In addition to working with athletes and teams, Dr. Cohn teaches parents, coaches and athletic trainers how to help athletes achieve peak performance through sports psychology skills training. Having earned his doctoral degree in Education specializing in Applied Sports Psychology from the University of Virginia (1991), Dr. Cohn has extensively interviewed and coached thousands of athletes to develop mental strategies to enter “the zone” faster and stay there longer. Experts in the field of sports psychology regard him as the leading authority for entering the zone and pre-competition routines. Dr. Cohn also teaches his mental game coaching system, the MGCP certification program (Mental Game Coaching Professional) to qualified coaches, trainers, and sports psychology students in training.

Mental Coach to Professional and Amateur Athletes

Dr. Cohn works with athletes and teams worldwide from a variety of sport backgrounds. He has consulted with the likes of the NASCAR Drivers, Miami Dolphins football, and PGA Tour Players Brian Watts, and J.L. Lewis. His experience as both an athlete (football, hockey, and lacross) and mental game coach has helped hundreds of athletes as well as sports teams and corporate teams identify the mental obstacles that prohibit peak performance. Whether you’re an amateur, a seasoned professional or simply dedicated to climbing the corporate ladder, Dr. Cohn provides solid strategies proven to help athletes, performers, and professionals enter the zone and perform at higher levels. If your performance suffers, because of lack of focus, confidence, or motivation, email Dr. Cohn your mental game question.

Published Author and Worldwide Speaker

Not only is Dr. Cohn known as one of the nation’s leading mental game coaches, he is a recognized author (with four books, five e-books, and two audiobooks to his credit) and sought after as a professional speaker. He has served as a sports commentator for the Golf Channel and has been a featured columnist for trade publications such as Golf Magazine, PGAtour.com, and Golf Digest. While recognized as a leading sports psychology authority, Dr. Patrick Cohn gives corporations and business executives the same mental advantage as pro athletes! He has worked with corporations such Bayer Healthcare and IBM Canada to improve focus and identify limiting expectations.

Dr. Patrick J. Cohn Philosophy on Fitness Motivation/Attitude

Many of the athletes and teams I work with are very motivated. My students are self-motivated people who take pride in their performance. This means that motivated athletes do not have to be coaxed by other people (such as a coach or parent) to practice or train hard. To get the most out of your exercise and training program, you too should have self-motivation. If you are not sure what motivates you to succeed in a training program, I would suggest that you take a close look at what drives you. The most powerful type of motivation, called intrinsic motivation, comes from within the person and is based on the personal desire to achieve your fitness goals, the enjoyment you gain from looking and feeling better, and the thrill of movement activities. Set your fitness and health goals high and do not let others breakdown your dreams of improved success!

Comments from Dr. Cohn's Students

"Hello Dr. Cohn! Chris got through PGA Tour Q-School with flying colors! He finished second, even with a double bogie, to be exact…. I felt it necessary to thank you myself for all you did for him. I know you had only spoken with him a few times, but he really got a lot out of it. You REALLY did get him on the right track to a better mental approach to this crazy game of golf. Thank you again for everything."
- Jennifer Anderson, wife of PGA Tour Player Chris Anderson

"Working with Dr. Cohn has helped me focus on the process and taken my mind off the result, which together with no expectations and manageable goals has helped tremendously in the very difficult task of starting a race team and competing at a high level. My confidence is higher now and I am able to keep it even in very tough situations."
- Alex Garcia, Race Car Driver

"Dr. Cohn has helped me improve confidence and build a consistence pre-shot routine that helps me stay confident, and learn how to play one shot at a time during competition. He also taught me that I don't have to hit every shot prefect to score well."
- Brian Belden, Winner 2003 AJGA Steel City Junior Classic & Marsh Junior at Hawk Pointe

"With your help, I have been able to deal with stress and pressure of the game of baseball more efficiently. I have learned what it means to focus on the process to help me keep my focus and disregard negative thoughts and energies. This process focus will keep me from getting my head in the way of my performance, from working against myself. Thanks for your help. I look forward to speaking with you again."
- Keith Donnell, Collegiate Baseball Player.
