Dani Myers, BS, CPT
GHF's Exercise Expert
A Lifetime in Love with Fitness Dani Myers can't remember a time in her life when she wasn't physically active; she was always outdoors, always doing sports. Then in high school, she took a physical education class called Slimnastics. This was her first introduction to weight training and aerobic exercise. "I was 15, and I fell in love with working out."
In the intervening years, she has gone on to earn a BS in Exercise and Sport Science from Oregon State University and is an ACE-certified personal trainer and a certified National Physique Committee bodybuilding judge. She is also certified through CEC in Exercise and Pregnancy, Strength Fitness, Program Design for Personal Trainers, and Post-Injury Fitness. She also works part-time as a personal trainer at a local health club.
Studying Anatomical Kinesiology, Biomechanics of Sports and Exercise, Applied Exercise and Sport Physiology, Physical Strength Development, and Cardiovascular Dynamics were a pivotal point for Dani, increasing her knowledge of how the body works while exercising, how exercise affects us physiologically, and how exercise positively changes our bodies.
Dani shifted her focus, applying this knowledge first to herself and her competitive bodybuilding and then to her clients. Having this deep understanding of how the human body works and responds to physical activity helps her keep her clients progressing. It has also helped her reach great success with competition and her own general physical health. What's more, she's continued to apply this knowledge toward her personal programs during pregnancy and post-pregnancy. Says Dani, "I am now, after having my son, in the best shape of my life."
Award-Winning Bodybuilder
Dani began winning competitive bodybuilding awards in 1992 and is proud of her drug-free competitive effort. Among her trophies are the 1992 1st and Overall Western Oregon Bodybuilding Championship, the 1993 1st and Overall Emerald Cup and 1st Collegiate Nationals, the 1996 and 1998 1st and Overall Ironman Naturally, and the 1998 1st and Overall Oregon State Bodybuilding Championship. She is currently taking time off from bodybuilding competition to spend time with her son.
Dani Myers on Lifetime Fitness "My goal for those whose lives touch mine is for them to feel the excitement and energy that exercising and being physically active brings. I want each person to feel what it is like to have their body become fit and their minds to love what they are experiencing. I want them to realize that being physically active for the rest of their lives will be rewarding, fun, and well worth the time spent. When I was 19, I decided to start training for competitive bodybuilding. This taught me discipline. With any goal, one wants to accomplish, discipline is a must. I believe that with discipline, hard work, and commitment, success is within reach. Whether the goal is becoming stronger or competing in an athletic event, it takes all 3 components to succeed.
I also try to instill in my clients that physical activity and exercise must be a part of their lives forever. I know the clock can't be turned back, but starting a program now will bring you one step closer to the results you yearn for. It is also important to remember time and patience. The big picture doesn't happen overnight, but each bit of the picture happens daily, with each workout and each nutritious food choice we make. The committed person, the one who works hard and focuses, is the successful person.
One of my clients is 76 years old and in excellent shape. She has been working out for 6 years and is stronger than ever. She is leaner and more flexible. She makes good food choices. She is proof that it is never too late to start an exercise program."
