Joyce L. Vedral, PhD
GHF's Women's Fitness Expert

Fitness Author and Speaker

A former professor of English literature, Joyce Vedral has applied her research abilities to the fitness world, where she met and trained with the "Father of Fitness", Joe Weider, publisher of Shape, Fitness, Muscle & Fitness, and several other popular magazine publications. (Joe gives Joyce's workouts his unqualified seal of approval!) Her books and videos have sold over three million copies and has appeared in the #1 slot on the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists.

Among her popular titles are The Bathing Suit Workout (Warner Books, 1999), Bone-Building Body-Shaping Workout (Simon & Schuster, 1998), Weight-Training Made Easy (Warner Books, 1997), The Twelve-Minute Total Body Workout (Warner Books, 1989), and Supercut: Nutrition for the Ultimate Physique (Contemporary Books, 1985). She has written articles for many of the major fitness magazines, including Muscle & Fitness, Shape, Your Health, Men's Fitness, and Parents magazines.

Joyce regularly appears on national television and radio talk shows and in local newspapers throughout the United States, Canada, England, and Australia. She has appeared on Oprah, Sally Jesse Rafael, Montel Williams, The Today Show, and CNN.

How She Did It

"After getting fatter every year despite dieting and working out for hours a day, I was ashamed to stand in front of my students. I did the research and soon realized that champion bodybuilders had the secrets to body shaping. Why re-invent the wheel? I applied the principles to myself modifying them to get feminine muscularity, and in a matter of 12 weeks my body was transformed." Warner Books became very excited and began publishing Joyce's workouts, which ended up in video. The rest is history.

Joyce's Favorite Success Story

"It's very difficult to pick one out because I get so many, but I'll tell you about Michelle. She started doing my workout when she was a size 24 and in her late 20s. Now, at 33, she's a size 12 and has maintained her fitness level for four years, springing right back into shape after another baby. Michelle is so typical of the women who think they can never overcome a mountain of fat and years of neglect--but who have done it and maintain it by simply 'doing it.' Michelle has learned to fit the workout in whenever she can-between babies' cries, naps, lunchtime, whenever!"

Joyce Vedral on Body Reshaping

If I can do it you can do it too. I didn't even pick up a weight until I was 39--and I looked better than ever in my life in a matter of months. At 56, I have the bones and body of a 20-year old. The key is to do it—like brushing your teeth or taking a shower. You don't have to get a thrill out of it; just do it.
